First Frame
After many many test tries, I think I have finally found the way to get the mood I’m going for! Yay, treat the image above as like the ‘first frame’.Let me tell you, it took about 10 layers to get it looking like that from this:

Screen Test 01
I decided to have a consistant character throughout - a mannequin. I chose a mannequin because this goes hand in hand with the connotation of the song, where the girl the protagonist is singing about won’t open up and return his feelings. I haven’t decided whether it will be easier to photo manipulate or construct a mannequin in Maya.
I started to experiment in After Effects, and this is what I came up with in about 2 hours:
