F-F-F Words

Band Logo, Band Poster / Print / 2010

Fiction is an up and coming local, Brisbane band. I volunteered to design some pieces of work for them. “F for” is the tagline I came up for these posters, as I thought it was fun, witty, with just the right touch of attitude - an apt way to describe the band. Be sure to check them out!

Errol Solomon Meyers Memorial Lecture

Promotional Poster & Program Design / Print / 2009

The ES Meyers Memorial lecture is a free public lecture convened annually by the University of Queensland Medical Society (UQMS) in aid of its charity wing, the Ashintosh Trust. As an annual reflection of the ethos of Dr Errol Solomon Meyer's life, the UQMS invites a luminary in the field of medicine, science, philanthropy or literature to deliver a perspective of individual endeavour and achievement. 2009's key note speaker was Dr Rowan Gilies, former international president of Médecins Sans Frontières.
I am extremely proud and honoured to be associated with such an event.

IWATCHEDHERDIE & Hereafter 2009 Australian Tour

Promotional Poster / Print / 2009

This gig poster, for IWATCHEDHERDIE and Hereafter, was all about getting back-to-basics. Taking hand-drawn elements, combining them digitally to produce something with raw animalistic energy. There's something extremely freeing about being able to experiment and play around in designing an artwork. Something I really enjoy doing. New Noise Agency are a Brisbane based touring and promotions company and they commissioned me for this piece.

The Fritz

TV Title Sequence / Animation / 2009

The Fritz is a panel-style variety talk show, all about taking the piss out of TV. My fellow alumni and friend, David Blackwell and I were commissioned to create the title sequence for the show. We tried to hide as many references to TV shows as we could in the sequence – see if you can spot them all! (Note: the finalised version will have sound – we promise!)

Leif Erikson

Music Video / Animation / 2008

Leif Erikson is a 3D animated music video I produced for my final year project studying at Queensland University of Technology. I absolutely love finding deeper meaning and interpreting other artist’s work, films or even TV shows. This is why I chose this song by US band, Interpol. Their songs are always moody and full of vivid imagery that it inspired me to bring my interpretation to life. This project took 8 months from concept to completion and was shown as part of the graduates exhibition show at QUT where it was chosen to received its highest honour of ‘Outstanding Animation’ by the Creative Industry faculty. I used Photoshop for the preproduction and textures, MAYA 2008 for all the 3D work and animation and After Effects for the post production. Though my narrative felt ambitious at times, through the careful critique and advice of my teacher and peers, I feel the result speaks for how much blood, sweat, tears (and caffeine) was poured into the making of. Many people have asked me what my film means and even though I don’t mind sharing my meaning, my video is open for interpretation. I’d love to hear how you interpret it as there is something intriguing with how similar (or dissimilar!) another person’s perspective is. Maybe this is why I love to delve deep into the meanings behind a work myself.

Play On 08

Animation and Communication Design Graduate Show / Catalogue Concept Design, Showreel Production, DVD Design & Production / 2008

PLAY ON 08 was the end of year show for the graduates of Animation and Communication Design at Queensland University of Technology. A team of 7 graduate students were assembled to organise the big end of year show to exhibit the graduate work. The team was given the theme word of ‘play’ and my design concept was chosen for the show. My idea centred on the objects of Polaroids - something fun and spontaneous! In each, the student was photographed doing something spur-of-the-moment with a prop, contrasting the ‘mug shot’ of an I.D. photo. Bright blocks of colour was juxtaposed against the black and white of the text. I was responsible for producing and designing the animation showreels for the DVD and also produced the animation student identities, which were made to represent the student in a few short seconds.

Lifehack

Branding / Graphic Design / 2008

Lifehack is a productivity blog that went through a rebranding when they merged with Stepcase. The company wanted something sleek and modern that, would of course, represent their objective as a site. I took their already established motif of the nut and spanner and simplified it. The enlosing barrier represents the community of people Lifehack aims to help.
